Ingredients to look for and stay away from for healthy curls.

There are many products out there for curly haired girls  to choose from, and not all of them are great products. One way to narrow down the list is to read through the ingredients and see if the product is curl approved.

Avoid Sulfates, silicones, drying alcohol, and non-soluble ingredients

Sulfates are foaming detergents that are found in many commercial shampoos and dish detergents. They can be drying for curly hair, so choose sulfate free shampoos if you are going to use shampoo.

Silicone coats the hair, which means none of the products you use will actually penetrate the hair. Hot oil treatments and deep conditioners won’t work well with silicone in your hair it is not water soluble So every-time you wash your hair, more and more just builds up. Eventually your hair just gets flat, and dull, and gross. To get the silicone out your hair you would have to use a clarififying silicone free shampoo and diluted apple cider vinegar or baking soda mixed in water. Then you can reap the benefits of deep conditioners, hot oil treatments and home made natural hair treatments.
